And the Clock Ticks On

Have you ever stopped to watch
the earth spinning slowly,
revealing shifting patterns in the stars?
Rotating constellations
whisper silent salutations,
demonstrating the illusion
of passing time-
Time-
Time is money,
And neither of them is real.
Even though the brightest of us will tell you
to live by these figments of our own imagination.
And they’ll tell you
I’m crazy
for measuring my Life
in laughter
and sunshine
and one step after the next.
Life-
Life is when you’re living,
because it’s not when you’re dead.
Another concept we’ve never understood,
we made it up inside our heads.
And in this world we play pretend,
creating arbitrary order.
Telling ourselves it’s concrete truth
we can distinguish
Fact from Fiction,
so I can write it down
on paper.
And when these disheveled poems
expand to fill a life,
will they remember me?
